How to Care for Your Henna

You've just gotten a fantastic Henna tattoo.  Here's how to care for your artwork before AND after the paste comes off:

  • The Henna paste will end up resembling dried mud; it may begin flaking off on its own.  Leave the paste on as long as you can - up to 12 hours.

  • When the paste flakes off your skin, the stain underneath will be a light orange.  Try to avoid washing the new Henna tattoo for several hours at least, up to the first 12 hours after removing the paste.

  • The Henna stain will darken over the next 24 to 48 hours; the final color will be a warm, chocolaty-brown on thinner skin, and can get as dark as a deep burgundy on thicker skin.
NATURAL HENNA WILL NEVER STAIN YOUR SKIN BLACK.
  • Use a natural, un-fragranced moisturizer like coconut oil, almond oil, or shea butter on a regular basis.  Avoid scrubbing the tattoo in the shower.

    WARNING:
  • Salt water will exfoliate and dry out your skin, causing your henna artwork to fade quickly.

  • Chlorinated water acts as a bleaching agent and also dries out your skin, causing your henna artwork to fade quickly.
